Inner Outer Circles
In my Inner Outer Circles series, I explore the illusion of the bi-dimensional
space of the canvas playing with multiple layered spaces. Using the
traditional technique of glazing, all different spaces are apparent
to the eyes, without contradicting each other. This technique allows
me to play with infinite layers, and use other medium such as paper
and prints, mixing medium and techniques.
The
shapes I use in my work are forms and signs that I find in nature
around me. They can be more or less recognizable, and in the particular
case of this series, I explored the trident (inspired from small
sea sponge skeletons) and circles revolving in a spiral (Julia of
Crop Circles found in British fields). Even though these two structures
seem to be in opposition, they trigger an interest in me: I combine
the very large with the miniscule in order to work, beyond shape
and context, on the structure of the mere composition and its development;
playing on the intermediary spaces, balancing the foregrounds and
backgrounds. The composition is not simply made on the surface of
the canvas, but in depth, step-by-step, plane-by-plane, and layer-by-layer.
